Techniques & Specialties

Shannon is trained in 18 massage techniques — here are a few you'll experience most.

01

Deep Tissue Massage

Focused, firm pressure that reaches the deepest layers of muscle and fascia to break up chronic tension patterns.

Who it's for

If you sit at a desk all day, carry stress in your shoulders, or have lingering knots that lighter massage can't reach — deep tissue is for you.

What it feels like

Slow, deliberate strokes with sustained pressure. You'll feel the release as tight bands soften. Some areas may feel intense, but Shannon checks in constantly to keep you comfortable.

02

Swedish Massage

The classic full-body massage — long, flowing strokes that ease tension, improve circulation, and calm the nervous system.

Who it's for

Perfect if you're new to massage, feeling generally stressed, or simply need to unwind and reset after a demanding week.

What it feels like

Gentle to moderate pressure with smooth, rhythmic movements. Most clients drift into deep relaxation within the first few minutes.

03

Sports Massage

Targeted techniques designed to support athletic performance, speed recovery, and prevent injury.

Who it's for

Weekend warriors, competitive athletes, runners, and anyone who pushes their body hard — whether at the gym, on the field, or in daily life.

What it feels like

A blend of stretching, compression, and focused deep work on overused muscle groups. Expect firm pressure matched to your sport and training schedule.

04

Myofascial Release

Gentle, sustained pressure applied to the fascia — the connective tissue surrounding every muscle — to release restrictions and restore mobility.

Who it's for

Ideal if you have limited range of motion, post-surgical tightness, or pain that doesn't respond to traditional massage techniques.

What it feels like

Slow holds and gentle stretching without oil. You'll feel a gradual softening as restricted tissue releases — like a slow, satisfying stretch from the inside out.

05

Prenatal Massage

Specially adapted massage for expectant mothers, easing the unique aches and fatigue that come with pregnancy.

Who it's for

Moms-to-be in their second or third trimester dealing with lower back pain, swollen legs, hip discomfort, or the general physical toll of pregnancy.

What it feels like

Gentle, soothing strokes with safe positioning to protect mom and baby. Many clients say it's the most comfortable they've felt in weeks.

Real Relief for Real Pain

Common Conditions Treated

You don't need to “just live with it.” Whether it's chronic pain, stress, or recovery from injury, therapeutic massage can make a real difference.

Chronic Lower Back Pain

Prolonged sitting, repetitive lifting, or old injuries can create deep, persistent low-back tension. Targeted deep tissue and myofascial work helps release the muscles and fascia that keep you locked up.

Tension Headaches & Migraines

Hours at a screen create a chain of tightness from your shoulders through your neck and into your skull. Focused neck, scalp, and upper-back massage can reduce headache frequency and intensity.

Neck & Shoulder Tightness

Whether it's from desk work, driving, or stress, chronic neck and shoulder tension affects nearly everyone. Swedish and deep tissue strokes restore range of motion and melt stiffness away.

Sciatica & Hip Pain

Sciatic nerve irritation and tight hip flexors can make everyday movement painful. Targeted glute, piriformis, and lower-back work helps relieve pressure on the nerve and improve mobility.

Athletic Recovery & Performance

Pushing your body hard means it needs focused recovery. Sports massage breaks up muscle adhesions, flushes metabolic waste, and helps you bounce back faster between workouts and games.

Stress, Anxiety & Sleeplessness

Massage activates your parasympathetic nervous system — the body's built-in calm-down switch. Regular sessions lower cortisol, ease anxiety, and help restore restful, restorative sleep.

Pregnancy Discomfort

Growing a baby takes a toll on your body. Prenatal massage safely eases swollen legs, aching hips, and lower-back strain so you can enjoy this chapter more comfortably.

Post-Injury Rehabilitation

After an injury or surgery, scar tissue and guarding patterns can limit your recovery. Gentle myofascial release and therapeutic massage support your body's natural healing process.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first visit

Wear whatever's comfortable — many clients arrive in casual clothes. You'll undress to your comfort level and be draped with a sheet throughout the session. Only the area being worked on is ever uncovered. Shannon will step out while you get settled on the table.

Shannon doesn't bill insurance directly. However, she can provide a receipt with the appropriate codes that you may submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. Check with your plan to see if massage therapy is covered under your benefits.

For chronic conditions like lower back pain or recurring headaches, Shannon typically recommends starting with sessions every 1–2 weeks to build momentum, then transitioning to monthly maintenance once symptoms improve. Every body is different — Shannon will help you find the right cadence during your first visit.

Swedish massage uses long, flowing strokes with lighter pressure to promote relaxation, improve circulation, and calm the nervous system. Deep tissue massage uses slower, firmer pressure to target the deeper layers of muscle and fascia — ideal for chronic tension and knots. Shannon often blends both techniques into a single session based on what your body needs.

Yes — prenatal massage is safe and beneficial for most pregnancies, especially in the second and third trimesters. Shannon uses specialized positioning and gentle techniques to relieve common pregnancy discomforts like back pain, swelling, and hip tension. If you have any high-risk conditions, check with your OB/GYN first.

You can book online anytime through the scheduling page, or call Shannon directly at (408) 476-4380. Same-week appointments are often available. If you're a first-time client, you'll receive 15% off your initial session.

Life happens! Shannon asks for at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or reschedules. This allows her to offer the time slot to another client. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee.

Sessions are available in 60, 90, and 120-minute lengths. A 60-minute session is great for focused work on one or two problem areas. A 90-minute session allows for more thorough full-body work. The 120-minute session gives Shannon time for thorough, head-to-toe work — ideal if you want deep relaxation and focused attention on multiple areas.
